Matthew Rizzie joined Great Lakes Credit Union as the GLCU Foundation for Financial Empowerment Executive Director two years ago. This decision was part of a transformational decision to complement and launch their philanthropic endeavor to have actionable community impact.
Matthew’s social service career started after college in the 1990s and include initiatives in partnership with California’s Governor Gavin Newsom, Vice President Kamala Harris, and the HOPE Hotline during the recent foreclosure crisis just over a decade ago. With then San Francisco Mayor Newsom, Matthew was part of the committee to advance youth workforce development in San Francisco and the greater bay area. And with the former California Attorney General Harris, Matthew facilitated meetings with his clients as she wrote the California Homeowner Bill of Rights which was subsequently enacted into law. Matthew was also part of the committee to develop and implement the Homeownership Preservation Foundation HOPE Hotline, 888-995-HOPE, used by all of the financial institutions during the foreclosure crisis.
