Carlos Javier Camacho Montalvo, Ph.D., is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Cooperativa de Ahorro y Crédito de Aguadilla, a community-based credit union located in Puerto Rico. Aguadilla Coop serves 15,078 members and manages approximately $159.6 million in total assets, $129.1 million in deposits, $13.2 million in member shares, $112.6 million in loans, and $21.4 million in capital, while maintaining a strong loan delinquency ratio of 0.99%. Carlos Javier has more than 25 years of experience in the financial institutions industry, with expertise in credit union management, regulatory compliance, internal audit, risk management, lending, collections, corporate governance, and financial restructuring. His professional career includes executive and senior leadership roles in Puerto Rico’s cooperative and banking sectors. Since 2017, Carlos Javier has guided Aguadilla Coop through a significant financial and operational transformation. His work has focused on designing and implementing strategic, budgetary, capitalization, credit, liquidity, investment, and compliance plans to stabilize and strengthen the institution. These initiatives contributed to the successful turnaround of the credit union, including the elimination of its receivership status by COSSEC, the strengthening of its financial position, the rebuilding of its brand, the modernization of operations, and the expansion of its lending capabilities. During his tenure, Aguadilla Coop has expanded its loan portfolio, strengthened its capital position, and modernized its governance, risk management, and lending practices. These efforts have positioned the institution to participate in collaborative credit strategies, including loan participation and partnerships that support economic development across Puerto Rico. In addition to his executive leadership, Carlos Javier is an experienced educator. He serves as a part-time professor at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez and the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, where he teaches graduate-level courses in accounting, finance, auditing, taxation, international finance, corporate finance, investments, financial institutions, and decision analysis. His academic work focuses on connecting financial theory with real-world institutional challenges, particularly in banking, credit unions, risk management, and cooperative financial sustainability.
